Example of a Faraday Cage
Clicking on Start places a circular object with positive charge inside the conducting cage. The charge may be relocated by placing the cursor on the charge, depressing the mouse button and moving.
1. In a stepwise fashion move the charge from inside to outside.
2. At what charge position does the E-field begin to extend outside the cage?
3. If one used a fine mesh instead of a solid conductor, would this make a significant difference?
4. With the charge at the position (4.,0.), try to sketch the field lines in your notebook and then check your answer. (The java algorithm is not perfect.)
