applications are accepted for the prizes on this page, which are
awarded annually by the the Physics Department. Applications are
accepted for the awards here. Undergraduate Prizes The Albert Augustus Radtke Prize This prize is given to outstanding junior or senior students majoring in Physics or AMEP, based on Physics GPA. This prize is made possible by a bequest of the late Mrs. Elizabeth S. Radtke in honor of her husband, a 1900 degree recipient from UW-Madison. The L.R. Ingersoll Prize This prize is given for distinguised acheivement in an introductory physics course (Physics 103, 104, 201, 202, 207, 208, 247, 248). This prize is underwritten by a fund established by the family and friends of the late Professor Ingersoll, a distinguished physicist and teacher at the University, who served as Department Chair for many years. Graduate Prizes The Joseph R. Dillinger Award for Teaching Excellence This prize, established by Thomas Dillinger (BS, Applied Mathematics, 1977; MS, Electrical Engineering, 1978) and family to honor Professor Dillinger (PhD., Physics, 1946), provides recognition to an outstanding teaching assistant in the Department of Physics. The Emanuel R. Piore Award This prize, established by Emanuel (BA, Physics, 1930; PhD., Physics, 1936) and Nora (BA, Economics, 1930; MA, Economics, 1934) is presented for academic excellence in the first year of graduate study. Winners of the award are graduate students with exceptional performance on qualifier examinations. The Karl Guthe Jansky and Alice Knapp Jansky Family Graduate Award in Physics and Astronomy This award is given to an outstanding graduate student, with preference given to a student particularly interested in astrophysics/radio astronomy. This award is given in alternate years to Physics and Astronomy graduate students. This award is made possible through the generosity of the Jansky family in honor of their father and mother, Karl Guthe and Alice Knapp Jansky. |
