Our department welcomed four new faculty members in 2023-24. Please click on each one, below, to learn more.
Rogerio Jorge
Theoretical plasma physicist Rogerio Jorge uncovers basic plasma physics phenomena and applies plasma physics knowledge to the realization of fusion energy. He joins us from IST in Lisbon, Portugal.
Matthew Otten
Atomic, molecular, and optical experimental physicist Matthew Otten's research goal is to make utility scale quantum computing a reality, and to get there faster than we would otherwise without his help. He joins us from HRL Laboratories.
Tiancheng Song
Experimental condensed matter physicist Tiancheng Song joined the department in May 2024. He studies 2D materials — materials essentially one atom thick — with a focus on exotic 2D magnetism, 2D superconductivity, and topology. He joins us from Princeton University.
Vladimir Zhdankin
Theoretical plasma astrophysicist Vladimir Zhdankin '11, PhD '15, uses the universe as his lab, where he researches the plasma processes in stars, the matter around black holes, and the interstellar medium. He joins us from the Flatiron Institute.
