- R. G. Herb Condensed Matter Seminar
- Atomic and Molecular Calculations Using Quantum Algorithms
- Time: 10:00 am - 11:00 am
- Place: 5310 Chamberlin
- Speaker: Srinivasa Prasannaa V, Centre for Quantum Engineering, Research and Education (CQuERE), TCG CREST, Kolkata, India
- Abstract: The possibility of carrying out atomic and molecular calculations on quantum computers has opened new avenues for exploring various important applications within the quantum computing framework. In this talk, we will discuss important results from our recent and ongoing works that employ the VQE, HHL, and quantum annealing eigensolver algorithms, in view of our long-term goal to probe fundamental physics via quantum many-body theoretic calculations on quantum computers.
- Host: Trent Graham
- Network in Neutrinos, Nuclear Astrophysics, and Symmetries (N3AS) Seminar
- Dark matter in compact stars and galactic structure
- Time: 2:00 pm
- Place: Join Zoom Meeting Meeting ID: 912 3071 4547
- Speaker: Joseph Bramante , Queen's University, Canada
- Abstract: Dark matter that accumulates in compact stars can have a number of observable effects, including thermal emission from the surface of neutron stars, converting neutron stars into black holes, and causing white dwarfs to explode. After very briefly reviewing these compact star dark matter searches I will present some preliminary work on dark matter induced white dwarf explosions, and how these can alter galactic structure through dark matter induced baryonic feedback.
