Thesis Defense
Generating entangling gates in superconducting quantum circuit
Time: 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Place: 5310 Chamberlin Hall
Speaker: Yinqi Chen, Physics PhD Graduate Student
Abstract: Qubit entanglement is a crucial step toward a universal quantum computer. A qubit system based on superconducting circuit has the advantage that it is easy to achieve relatively strong coupling between qubits, therefore fast entanglement is possible. This thesis focuses on the method to manipulate fast entanglement in a superconducting quantum circuit, in particular on the method to realize fast entangling two-qubit gate. The first half of the thesis presents the result of fast high-fidelity two-qubit gate on fluxonium qubits, specifically the sqrt-iSWAP gate and the cross-resonant CNOT gate. The second half of the thesis starts with a general investigation on the parametric quantum state transfer between two quantum resonators, then presents an application of parametric transfer to the gatemon qubit system. The result demonstrates that parametric resonance enables fast and high-fidelity iSWAP, CNOT, and sqrt-iSWAP gate on gatemon qubits.
