High Energy Seminar
On the origin of ANITA's intriguing events
Date: Wednesday, August 9th
Time: 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm
Place: Chamberlin 5280 /
Speaker: Jordi Salvado, University of Barcelona
Abstract: In recent years, the ANtarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA) has undertaken four flights in the South Pole, with the primary objective of detecting ultra-high energy astrophysical neutrinos within the Antarctic ice. During this period ANITA collaboration has reported several intriguing events apparently compatible with upgoing high energy showers in the atmosphere. In this talk, we will provide an overview of the experimental findings and discuss their potential implications for physics beyond the standard model. Additionally, we will contextualise these results in relation to other experiments such as IceCube.
