Research groups in Astrophysics & Cosmology Experiment
Bechtol Group — Observational Cosmology
Dark Energy, Dark Matter, Neutrinos, Gravitational Waves: We use the whole Universe as a laboratory to explore the fundamental nature of matter, energy, space, and time.
Fang Group
Halzen Group
Karle Group
Lu Group
McCammon Group — X-ray Astrophysics
We study X-ray emission from the diffuse hot gas that comprises most of the normal matter in the Universe using our own sounding rocket experiments and satellite data. Most of our effort is devoted to developing better detectors for these missions.
Plasma Astrophysics
The Wisconsin Plasma Physics Laboratory is home to the department's plasma astrophysics research, including that of Profs. Stas Boldyrev, Cary Forest, John Sarff, Paul Terry, and Ellen Zweibel.
Timbie Group — Observational Cosmology
Our research group observes the Universe on large scales to find clues about how it began.
Research Groups in Cosmology Theory
Chung Group
Studying the interface of cosmology and high energy theory. Emphasis is on observable physics and physics beyond the standard model.
Münchmeyer Group — Theoretical and Computational Cosmology
Combining theoretical investigation, data from different cosmological surveys, and methods from artificial intelligence to deepen our understanding of the universe.
Shiu Group — String Phenomenology
Understanding the deep connection between String Theory, Particle Physics, and Cosmology by constructing and studying models of particle physics and cosmology from string theory to learn about physics in the high energy frontier and early universe.
