From the Airports

For those travelling by air, Madison is served by the Dane County Regional Airport that connects to several major airline hubs in the US. The downtown/campus is only 20 minutes from the airport by taxi. See details about ground transportation from the airport to the downtown/UW-Madison campus. Uber service is also available in Madison.

The Chicago’s O’Hare International airport (ORD) is ~150 miles to the South East of Madison. Those flying in to ORD can choose to rent a car at the airport and drive to Madison OR take advantage of the hourly Van Galder bus service between the airport and Madison.

Those planning to take the bus : From Chicago O’Hare, take the Van Galder Bus from either the (international) Terminal 5 (lower level/arrival area) or the Bus Center (in the main parking garage between terminals 1, 2 and 3) in front of the Hilton hotel. The trip to Madison is ~3 hours. The bus departs daily about every hour between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m., and costs ~$31 each way. The last stop is UW Memorial Union right on campus. From there you can take a taxi ride to your hotel.

Public parking on campus

Parking on or near campus is limited. Visitor parking is available in city-run ramps and lots; and in university garages and ramps. Street parking near campus is usually restricted to two hours. For detailed information regarding visitor parking on campus please see  UW-Madison parking website.

The campus map shows locations of public parking on campus. Select “Show me… Public Parking” and locations will appear. Click on any “P” for details of that location, including realtime availability. Zoom out the page to see more parking ramps/location (Fluno Center, Lake and Johnson Ramp, State Street Campus Garage) that are within walking distance to Chamberlin Hall.

Metered public parking is very limited in campus surface lots. So it is advised to avail full day parking at the designated parking lots which costs $15. Meters on campus don’t accept coins. They use the Parkmobile Parking Meter System. Signs in each lot give time limits, fee rate, parking zone #, and contact information for Parkmobile.

Many hotels around the campus/downtown area provide free parking with hotel reservation. Please check with your respective hotel when making room reservation.
